Who Is the Friendly Ghost?
The friendliest ghost is the Holy one
Hi, I make three!
But never female, oh no
That’s what the Church Fathers say
Maternity has been ghosted out
How many died over the friendly ghost?
All those early Roman councils
Fanatics throwing themselves from cliffs
The spirit moved them, maybe
No maternal goddess would do that
The ghost is getting rather thin
And maybe isn’t there at all
It’s the Father, the Son
And now the Mother of God --
What room is left?
The family always comes back
And the ghost is left outside, howling
Like an ancestor driven out
To die in the snow
