The 20 Minutes
In twenty minutes, someone could take each fork
And stack them in a pile click click click
Long enough to make almost two dollars.
In thirteen minutes, the sun can change its angle
Sweeping shadows washing clothes on the line
Far enough to move the chair to dark.
In nine minutes, the water can rush the Styrofoam
Safely, safely through the eddies
Fast enough to sail it round the stream-bend.
In five minutes, the bird could chirp out its song
Mating, territory, the things of life
Often enough to say all it has three times.
One minute should be enough.
